If I were Dave Ngwira
The Blantyre man suspected of engaging in sodomy with a 12-year-old boy, I would feel ashamed of my acts.
If I were Ngwira, I would realise that while I am entitled to practice sodomy, it was unfair and unfortunate to coax a minor into such acts because not only am I putting the boy’s health at risk, but I have also traumatised him for life.
I would realise that it was disheartening as it was inhumane on my part, to entice a 12-year-old boy by giving him K100 and K200 after the evil acts.
And perhaps if it were former president Bakili Muluzi, he would rightly ask: “Umvamo chani mwa mwana wazaka 12? Ufiti, chani?”
Oh yes, if only I were one Dave Ngwira, I would realise that I do not deserve a place in society, not because I practice homosexuality, but because I persuaded a poor little boy who is now in poor health because of my cruelty.
As a 32-year-old man, surely I would realise that a 12-year-old boy is not my peer with who I can engage in such acts.
That is if only I were one Dave Ngwira from Chilobwe Township. But I can never be him, never!
