IF I WERE: Justin Saidi

Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Principal Secretary, I would realise that putting names of deceased and retired teachers on the list of 20 210 teachers promoted two weeks ago could have been avoided if the process was not done in a hurry.

If I were the ministry’s controlling officer, I would appreciate that the erroneous inclusion of deceased teachers on the list of promoted teachers was as bad as it gets and should not be tolerated in a civil service haunted by ghost workers.

Oh yes, bwana PS, the fact that some names appear twice mirrors the glaring shortcomings that marred the promotions.

If I were the PS, I would, therefore, ensure that my office goes beyond “rectifying the error” so that the problem is addressed once and for all.

If only I were Saidi, I would also realise that such an incident has the potential to trigger speculation that perhaps the deceased teachers were ‘ghosts’ still on government pay roll.

That is if I were Saidi, but I am just a scribe.n
