If I were

If I were: Lazarus Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, I would admit that it was an error of judgement not to include Lovemore Munlo in the initial 37-member national executive committee.

If only I were my good reverend, I would concede that I goofed big time to leave out Munlo because not only did he come second to me in the elections for the party’s leadership, but he is also a respected person in society and could have provided balance in a setup that is clearly short of good representation in the Southern Region.

How I wish I were Chakwera, because I would appreciate that it was an insult to ignore Munlo in the initial NEC and then offer him the executive membership position only when I was criticised for leaving him out.

I would realise that Munlo was justified to turn down my offer because the picture portrayed was that I did not do it wholeheartedly, but rather due to people’s concerns.

If I were the MCP leader, I would, therefore, swallow my pride and make an effort to talk to Munlo to address his concerns and find a better way of working together for the good of the party.

That is if only I were Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera. Unfortunately, I am not the MCP president. Kwacha! Kwacha!
