If I were

If I were Peter Mutharika

Listen to this article

Acting president of the former ruling Democratic Progressive party (DPP), I would realise that the loss of two seats in the recent by-elections is a clear indication that my party is losing the plot.

I would appreciate if I were the acting DPP leader that the development is a cause for worry and should give me plenty of food for thought.

Perhaps, if I were the man that is the good professor, I would see the need to open up and strategise in order to strengthen the party.

I would also realise that the resignation of secretary general Wakuda Kamanga and announcement by vice-president Goodall Gondwe that he will be quitting active politics in 2014 is also a setback to the party.

If I were Professor Mutharika I would realise that while not all is lost, there is need to conduct some soul-searching on the future of the party.

That is of course if I were Peter Mutharika, unfortunately I am not the DPP acting president.
