The MPS side stunned defending champions Silver Strikers 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday courtesy of Maxwell Salambula’s first half strike. They will face winners between Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers in the finals.

The IG who watched the game, made the pledge after the win.

“I am impressed and I will give you K200 000 each for the victory,” said Jose attracting applause from the players.

As if that was not enough, the team’s chairperson Alexander Ngwala doubled the winning game bonus to K40 000.

“Normally they get K20 000 each as bonus for a win. But this was a special and crucial game as such, I had to double their bonus as a token of appreciation and motivate them ahead of the finals,” he said.

This means each player will get a minimum of K240 000 for reaching the finals.

Blue Eagles captain Micium Mhone was on cloud nine for the gesture.

“Ndi moralo yapadera yomwe atipasa abwana anthu [It’s a morale boost to us]. We did not expect this and we are looking forward to welcoming our new IG with Airtel Top 8 Cup. We will fight to accomplish that,” said Mhone.

Eagles last won a trophy in 2012 when they beat disbanded Escom United 1-0 in the finals of the Carlsberg Cup.
