Boxing icon Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba has “accepted” President Peter Mutharika’s challenge to a non-title bout, saying the President would not last the first round.

Chilemba, on a lighter note, was reacting to Mutharika’s equally light-hearted comments that he is fit enough to dare the boxer to a 12-round non-title bout following speculations on his health while in the United States.

The President joked at a press briefing that he was in robust health to even knock out Chilemba in round three.

“My President is a busy man, he has a crammed diary and I wouldn’t let him even last three rounds. I will spare him such agony by knocking him out in under 10 seconds. Otherwise, I would have reduced his nine lives to zero.

“We will start with a walk, catch up then run to the gym for punches,” joked Chilemba on Sunday.

Nevertheless, the former IBO super middleweight and WBC international light heavyweight champion said he felt humbled by the President’s comments.

“Of course, it was some light-hearted stuff, but it still meant a lot to me. It shows that he appreciates my talent,” said Chilemba who has now stepped up preparations for his upcoming North American Boxing Federation (Nabf) light heavyweight title bout against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on November 19. n
