Illovo Sugar Company has given cyclists Kwame Kaira and Mothiniya Misolo K600 000 worth of return airtickets to enable them to take part in the 94.7-kilometre Johannesburg Cycling Challenge on November 15.

During presentation of the airtickets at the company’s Limbe office a few days ago, Illovo Sugar Company national sales manager Walter Nyamilandu said they would also sponsor the two cyclists’ accommodation and food during their three-day stay in South Africa, to the tune of K500 000.

Kaira and Misolo, who qualified for the international event after emerging as third-placed and fourth-positioned athletes during last year’s Illovo Classic Cycling Race in Blantyre, will be the first beneficiaries of the contest.

“This is to show our love and commitment to the development of cycling in the country. We always want to see more cyclists gaining international exposure so that one day we might be recognised as a nation with excellent riders,” said Nyamilandu.

Kaira and Misolo will use this Saturday’s Illovo Classic contest at Hillview in Blantyre to prepare for the international event.
