Mzuzu District Innobuild Football Association of Malawi (FAM) League has unearthed another female coach Idah Kanthenga who is coach for Mzuzu-based Matabwa Hammers following the footsteps of Malawi Women Football Team coach Maggie Chombo and Karen Chaula of Ntopwa FC.

The 27-year old Kanthenga defied all odds when she stepped  forward onto the touchline last Sunday at Chibavi Football Ground playing against Masm FC, a game they lost 3-2.

Speaking in an interview with The nation on Thursday, Kanthenga could not hide her ambitions to coach one of the Malawi National women football league teams in the nearest possible future.

“I love football and it has always been my desire to coach any of the National women football teams in the nearest possible future… ,” she said.

Kanthenga laments having lost her Under-14 football team she assembled way back whose players were all poached by some clubs due to financial difficulties.

Matabwa Hammers finished at the bottom of the group stages in the Cluter-D of the league with five points from six games.

Commenting on the coach performance, Matabwa Hammers chairperson Hamza Hassan said he is satisfied with her commitment to the team and that given more time she can bring needed results.

“We have the belief that she will help us. We have confidence in her ability to do the job. We want her to lead us in the second round,” he said.

FAM and Innobuild merged the sponsorship of the Mzuzu District Football League which is pegged at K5 million
