People of Dowa North Constituency in Traditional Authority Chakhaza have expressed concern over insecurity in the area.
Mtsukamakoza Citizen Forum committee member Elinart Chitheka said this on Wednesday during a meeting National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust organised in the area.

Dowa constituents want increased police patrols in their area

“We have escalating cases of theft, defilement, arson and rape because we do not have structures to check the malpractices. We wonder whether authorities are committed to deal with the situation,” she said.
“We feel failure by the district’s police to train community policing members and provide them with working materials has a direct bearing on the surge of the criminal activities in this area.”
Chitheka said adequate training and lack of equipment is preventing community policing members from arresting suspects.
She called on the police to increase patrols in the area.
Mponela Police Station Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer Mercy Mvula encouraged the communities to continue working hard to provide security to the area.
She assured them that she would forward their concerns to community policing coordinator in Dowa.
Nice Dowa assistant district civic education officer Francis Mphunda said the meeting was aimed at giving a chance to communities to duty-bearers on issues affecting them. n
