Inspirational Farrah Gray

Up until last week, I had never heard of Farrah Gray. And, now that I have heard of him and learnt his story, I am in awe. I feel inadequate, but also inspired enough to believe that everything is possible if only you put planning, meticulous attention to detail and hard work into your efforts.

Gray’s story challenges us to think outside the box and look for possibilities in every precipice, something Malawians are only beginning to grasp. This reminds me of something I read not so long ago on solving money problems which points out that we need to constantly  think of creative ways to make money.

Gray had a great idea. He applied it with determination and stuck to it. When this idea started paying off, he did not stagnate; he began building and growing himself into a brand. His story teaches us that it is not your credentials that truly matter; it’s your drive and an adept use of every day ‘politics’.

At age 6, Gray sold body lotion for $1.50 from door to door. At age 7, he carried a business card that read “21st Century CEO”. At age 8, in Chicago, Farrah started UNEEC (Urban Neighborhood Economic Enterprise Club). At age 9, almost 10, Farrah co-hosted radio show “Backstage Live” in Las Vegas reaching 12 million listeners every Saturday night.  Farrah acquired INNERCITY Magazine from Inner City Broadcasting Corporation. By age 14, he had defied the odds to become a self made millionaire. At age 17, Farrah financed a comedy show on the Las Vegas Strip, which gave him the distinct honour of being the second African-American after Red Foxx to own a show production on the Las Vegas Strip.

At age 19, Farrah signed his “Reallionaire” book deal with HCI.  Farrah Gray became a contributing author to “Chicken Soup for the African-American Soul”. Both books were published by Health Communications Incorporated (HCI) publisher of the New York Times and USA Today best-seller Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Chicken Soup for the Soul has sold more than 112 million copies, with titles translated into more than 40 languages and total retail sales of Chicken Soup for the Soul branded merchandise have topped $1.3 billion.

He launched University of Business Futures (UBF), an entrepreneurship school, developed in a partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and graduated with 300 students. Became the youngest in HBCU history to receive an honorary doctorate from Allen University.

At age 24, Realty Pros reached over $30 million in total assets under management. Serving second term as chairman of The National Coalition for the Homeless Bringing America Home Campaign. Released “THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU RICH: The New Road Map to Radical Prosperity” (Plume Paperback).  Farrah Gray is now 27 years old and still at the top of his game.

I know Farrah Gray and we have discussed his future. His motivation determines what he will do. His attitude determines how well he will succeed at making a difference.

Bill Clinton, former US President.

“My story, though unique, is not unlike others who began with nothing more than a dream fueled by sheer determination.
