Insurance sports day sponsorship hiked

This year’s Insurance Institute of Malawi (IIM) annual sports day held on Saturday at the College of Medicine’s Sports Complex has been described as a huge success following hiked sponsorship and competitiveness.

The day was full of fun. In football, the game between Nico and Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) failed to produce a winner after extra time. With darkness looming, the two sides agreed to share the K100 000 prize money.

The sponsorship package for this year’s event rose to K2.5 million, up from around K1 million.

All sports activities marking the day took place on Saturday save for golf which was played on Thursday at the Blantyre Sports Club where Chris Kapanga emerged as the winner.

In netball, RBM underlined their supremacy as they retained the championship while General Alliance won the volleyball championship.

The sports event’s organising committee chairperson Mphatso Kamzingeni-Zulu on Sunday described the day-long event as a success.

“The attendance was bigger and the competition was exciting,” Kamzingeni-Zulu said in an interview.

Other games that were lined up for the day included darts, relay race, egg throw, bawo and chess.
