The Islamic Relief Agency (IRA) has extended its feeding programme to two extra schools in Blantyre.

The schools are Alfurqan in Chirimba and Alfatha in Chemusa.

IRA project manager Sheikh Cassim Idrissah said in an interview recently that the decision was made to ensure that more learners benefit from the project.

“We are aware that most children go to school on empty stomach; hence, our decision to increase the number of schools benefiting from the project. The extension will benefit 800 pupils in addition to the 2 000 already on the programme,” said Idrissah.

He said the project is line with IRA’s mission to complement government’s efforts aimed at improving people’s living standards through interventions in education, health, agriculture as well as water and energy.

“IRA is assisting through the school feeding programme. Currently, we are feeding pupils in twelve schools both secular and Madrassahs. We want to appeal to other orgnisations to come in so that more orphans and vulnerable children benefit,” said Idrissah.

Apart from the school feeding programmes, IRA is implementing projects such as drilling boreholes, distributing farm inputs, planting fruit trees and distributing relief food.
