Is God really sending these Prophets?

Listen to this article

We are moving towards holding the 2014 Tripartite Elections on May 20. Many things have begun to happen. Political heavyweights are ditching their parties to join others for different reasons. Prophets too have begun their work which is taking place in different fora including electronic media houses.

On January 27 2014, I woke up in the morning and tuned in to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) radio 1 to listen to a panorama programme that features news taking place nationwide.

As the programme progressed, I heard a story about the prophesy from a certain man of God claiming that the incumbent President Joyce Banda will win the forth coming elections. This could be good news followers of People’s Party (PP) and on the other hand it could be bad news to followers of other parties.

What surprised me before the day ended was that I heard another prophetic message on Galaxy Radio Station from Prophet Austin Liabunya claiming that God had shown him that the one who will win the 2014 presidential seat will be the person from the party which once ruled the country.

These two prophets confused me such that I asked myself several questions considering that they  gave conflicting prophesies on the same date, regardless of the different times they were given.

My question is: Does God really send these people to speak on his behalf? If it is really God sending them, how come they have different prophesies sent by one man? If it is not God sending them, who is sending them?

The bible tells us not to judge but my opinion is that these so-called prophets are not sent by God. They are rather sent by people they know better. The reason I am saying this is that the way they are prophesising is not consistent with how the prophets in the bible did.

Above all, if it was God sending them they would not concentrate on who will be the next State President. They would rather concentrate on how the problems facing the nation would grow or would end after having the next president.

I quoted prophet Liabunya on Galaxy as saying there is nothing that can prevent them from associating themselves with politicians just the same way prophets in the bible associated themselves with kings in those days.

He further revealed that so far he has met three aspiring presidential candidates and that he has met many politicians whom he had influenced in one way or another. This gives me a conscious mind that our country is now becoming surrounded by prophets who are more concerned with earthily leadership and other issues.

In the bible, the book of Jeremiah 28 tells a story of two prophets; Hananiah was regarded as a false prophet while Jeremiah was a real prophet sent by God.

The false prophesy of Hananiah in verse 2-4 of the chapter reads. “This is what the Lord Almighty God of Israel says: ‘I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. Within two years I will bring back to this place all the articles of the Lord’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and took to the Babylon. I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the Lord, ‘ for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.”

If we can critically look into this prophesy we find that it is somehow intimidatory just the same way Prophet Liabunya said about the bomb which is about to happen. The most worrisome thing is that he wants people to believe he is a real prophet sent by God but at the same time he is not revealing to the nation about the bomb that he claimed (on Galaxy radio) is about to happen.

For how long should Malawians keep on staying in fear of the unknown because of the false prophesies on airwaves airwaves in our country about the nation. These people should leave Malawians free from false prophesies.

It is high time people begun telling them the truth that they are operating without God’s approval as some did recently when one prophet was castigated in the media for the unfulfilled prophetic words he uttered some months ago.

There is no harm at all if people can courageously rebuke them because it clearly shows they are there to gain political attention. Moreover, it is good for the man of God to be the presidential advisor on religious affairs as the position is so appetising.

Not all can claim that position because it is a gamble to be close to the president and enjoy some huge benefits. So I believe some of these prophets are doing this because they want to gain political attention for them to easily be considered in some State House portfolios.

In the same chapter of Jeremiah verse 15-16 prophet Jeremiah openly told Hananiah that he was not God sent. The verses read: “Listen Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies. Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.’ ’’

So Malawians should be careful with some of these prophesies because they are just kicks of a dying horse which would need close care and attention. What they are doing are income generating tasks, it is just an equation to answer the question of how they can survive.

  1. I just want to remind ll those who are parading themselves in the name of prophets/tess that God is not for sale and do not mention his name in vain. Just do your business like the sing’angas sanamizila wina amanena zawo. Mulungu si mbamu yoti muziyikulunga kapena kukamata.
