Is Mapuya still relevant in PDP?

Dear judge Mbadwa

The events of the past week at Fertile Cultural ground in Tcholo have given us a clear picture of the genesis of the leadership wrangles in People’s Demagogic Party (PDP).

If what Mapuya said at the cultural grouping is anything to go by, then he cannot claim to have facilitated the process of unity among several factions in the party.

My lord, in fact Mapuya is the protagonist of the confusion that has characterised PDP as he still believes he is the best thing that has ever happened to the party.

His ambivalent position on the party’s leadership succession plan is fast leading the once mighty PDP into the proverbial wasting like the ‘dirty old curtains’ of Chairman’s fame.

Some of the not so clever decisions that the party has made recently, including that strange statement its spokesperson came up with on perceived Marita Chimbeki’s victimisation of a former head of State, has Mapuya written all over it.

Here was an opportunity at Fertile Cultural Ground for the PDP to make a statement that it is still a party that can give Tokha Alliance a good run for their money, but as usual Mapuya flattered to deceive with his speech.

He dared all who care about the party that Mapuya is PDP and PDP is Mapuya and nobody is going to do anything about it.

But Nyasaland needs a strong opposition not the one being offered by PDP with Mapuya at the helm.

My lord, it would not be rude to suggest that the sooner the reality sinks in that Mapuya is no longer politically relevant in such an edifice the better. But hey! Who is going to muster the courage to tell him to retire when he is still a benefactor of some party loyalists?

Now the greatest irony of the whole Fertile Ground enterprise was the advice that Chairman offered to Mapuya to unite the party.

Maybe the Chairman was the rightful person to give advice seeing how he himself has overseen the dismantling of the Yellow Party.

In fact, Yellow Party had at one time the crème de la crème of the Nyasaland political leadership but antics of personalising a political entity akin to what Mapuya is demonstrating, fast-tracked the tearing of that yellow cloth.

My lord, I understood the Chairman’s statement very well. He was actually saying, “Please Mapuya, don’t make the mistake I made to regard myself as the party. Be different!”
