JB appoints Chauncy Simwaka as acting budget director
Malawi President Joyce Banda has appointed Chauncy Simwaka as acting budget director while Paul Mphwiyo recuperates at Milpark Hospital in South African following his shooting last month.
Mphwiyo has been admitted at the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Four bullets were removed from his body following surgery two weeks ago.
He was shot at his Area 43 residence in Lilongwe last month.
His shooting opened a can of worms and a series of fraud and corruption allegations of public resources at the highest level have been exposed and some arrests made.
Meanwhile, some donors, civil society organisations and politicians have demanded thorough investigations into the matter, with Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) is calling for Banda and Finance Minister Ken Lipenga’s resignations.
