Malawi President Joyce Banda on Sunday gave Nkhata Bay Assemblies of God Church K1 million (about $3 333) towards construction of a church and a pastor’s house in the district.
Banda, who attended a fundraising gospel show at Katoto Secondary School hall in Mzuzu without prior notice, said: “I thought of coming here, even without any invitation because it is good to thank God every time. I believe that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As such, I want to assure the pastor that he is not alone in doing the work of the Lord.â€
The President said it was pleasing to see the youth at the forefront in doing the God’s work.
The First Gentleman, retired Chief Justice Richard Banda, donated K500 000 (about $1 666) whereas Cabinet ministers, People’s Party (PP) and government officials also made their donations towards the project.
Resident pastor for Nkhata Bay Assemblies of God Church, the Reverend Alfred Chaponda-Mwale, described the President’s gesture as a great miracle, saying they did not expect her to attend the show.
He said her attendance is an indication that the President loves God.
