JB ranked Africa’s most powerful woman

Malawi President Joyce Banda has been ranked the most powerful woman in Africa and 71 in the world, by Forbes Magazine.

According to  The Daily Mail—a UK online newspaper—Banda, who was ranked third in last year’s Forbes Africa, has triumphed over her idol, Liberia’s president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Nigeria’s Finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iwel who were first and second, respectively.

Sirleaf is now third in Africa and 82 in the world while Ngozi Okonjo-Iwel is now second in Africa and 81 in the world.

On the global scene, however, German’s Chancellor Angella Merkel has been ranked the most powerful woman in the world seconded by US secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The women on the list are ranked according to influence, the amount of money they control or earn and media presence.

Forbes is highly rated and reaches more than 4.3 million readers via publications in 10 languages in more than 100 countries.
