In a bid to meet the projected time frame, organisers of the K100 million Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) inter-constituency football and netball tournaments, have increased tempo by doubling the number of districts from two to four in a week.
The competition’s manager Wyson Sumaili said last weekend, they managed to cover four districts—Zomba, Machinga, Balaka and Mangochi.
In Zomba, Malosa beat Zomba Central 2-1 in football whereas in netball Domasi overcame Nsondole 14-7 at Domasi Demonstration School. The tournament’s coordinator Robert Munthali said Zomba Central featured forgotten former Red Lions midfield star Patrick Fologonya.
In Machinga, Likwenu beat Machinga South 3-0 in football, while in netball,Likwenu thrashed Machinga South 20-0 at Liwonde Community Centre Ground.
In Mangochi, Central Constituency beat Nkungulu 3-0 in football whereas in netball, Central walloped Malombe 21-2 and in Balaka, Central East edged South 3-2 in football, while in netball Central East also emerged 21-4 winners over South.
So far the tournament has covered Mwanza, Neno, Chikhwawa, Nsanje, Lilongwe, Salima, Nkhotakota, Zomba, Machinga, Balaka and Mangochi.
“Our target was to get it over and done next month although we still have some districts to cover. However, we will try our best,” said Sumaili.
