Jealous wife kills her husband’s girlfriend in Mangochi

A jealous wife from Traditional Authority (T/A) Chilipa in Mangochi District has stabbed her fellow woman to death on suspicion that the woman was going out with her husband.

Mangochi Police Spokesperson Rodrick Maida confirmed the incident and identified the jealous wife as only Mrs George Gona (husband’s name) and the deceased as Miss Mphatso Fyson, 25, from Kapire Village in the area.

“Yes I can confirm that the incident happened on 5th January 2020 at Kapire Trading Centre in the area around 8 O’clock in the evening,” he confirmed.
Maida explained that the deceased has been going out with the suspect’s husband, and on the material day, the two love birds agreed to meet near Kapire Parish Hall, but unfortunately the wife of the man found them.

“This ensued a quarrel that prompted the wife of the of the man to stab the girlfriend several times with a sharp object,” narrated the police publicist.

The girlfriend was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chilipa health facility.

“We are currently doing investigations to arrest the suspect who is on the run together with her husband,” he said
The incident comes at a time when murder cases have risen in the lakeshore district to 11 in 2019 from 5 in 2018, representing 120 percent increase.

Meanwhile, National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust in the district has urged the police to do more by embarking on a swift investigation and a subsequent arrest to suspect whenever they receive a report.

“The police need to be vigilant by arresting people who are involved in suspected murders cases and again; they should ensure that the suspects are undergone dully processes of facing the law. This will nip the murder cases in the bud,” said Nice district vice education officer Turner Banda
