John Chilembwe armoury officially opened

Indebank on Tuesday officially opened the African Lakes Corporation (ALC) Armoury at Mandala in Blantyre to the public.

This was where ALC and authorities kept their weapons and was broken into by John Chilembwe’s team during his 1915 uprising.

Inside the armoury, visitors will see images and read information about the uprising and the armoury.

During the launch, Indebank chief executive officer William Chatsala said the bank feels privileged to have the historic armoury on their premises.

“I am happy to say that this armoury remains a historical artefact in Malawi and as a brand, we are very excited to host and be associated with the history of John Chilembwe, which is a major component of the history of the country’s nationhood,” he said.

At the launch, Indebank also invited Catholic Institute Primary School pupils.
