Jomo Cosmos want Gabadihno

South Africa’s National First Division (NFD) side Jomo Cosmos are making advances on Big Bullets player of the moment Frank ‘Gabadini’ Mhango.

Cosmos, through their local agent Ben Chiwaya, have approached Bullets requesting for the player’s release to attend trials for a week in Johannesburg.

Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire confirmed the upshot on Monday, but was quick to point out that the issue is still under discussion.

Chiwaya said he recommended Gabadini to Cosmos owner Jomo Sono who has instructed him to seek his release for trials.

“Jomo has intensified Cosmos rebuilding drive and he would like to sign a number of young quality players. Having watched Gabadinho in a number of games, I think he has what it takes to make the grade.

“I am not saying that we are going to sign him, but he will be assessed alongside other strikers that are currently attending trials. So, I am just waiting for feedback from BB, but as soon as they clear him, I will put him on the plane,” said Chiwaya.

But Mkandawire on Monday said there are several factors that need to be looked into, such as the player’s age and experience.

“We cannot block Gabadini from prospects of a bright future, but what has to be bone in mind is that he is still young and in the process of learning.

“We need to get the views of his guardian and determine whether a move abroad would be good for his career,” said Mkandawire.

But Chiwaya said their only worry is that they are facing a race against time.

Gabadini said he is yet to briefed about the development, but would not mind trying his luck.

Meanwhile, another player agent Felix Ngamanya Sapao has said his client Chiukepo Msowoya is unlikely to be offered a contract at the recently promoted South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side University of Pretoria (UP) where he is undergoing trials.

However, Sapao claimed that he has two definite offers from other PSL teams.

“The thing is that UP had two other strikers on trials apart from Chiukepo. The others were Ghanaian Ransford Osei [formerly of Bloemfontein Celtic] and Kheli Dube who spent six seasons in the top USA league.

“So, they have opted for Dube due to his vast experience. However, I have three definite offers for him, two of them from PSL teams while the other one is from NFD, but it would be premature to disclose their identities at this stage,” said Sapao.

He also said Chiukepo is still training with UP.

“The coach requested for one more week having been impressed with his performance in a trial match, but I am weighing other options. The tricky part, though, is that he still has a year remaining on his contract with Orlando Pirates. That means if they are to release him, then they will have to pay him out the remaining duration,” he said.

Sapao also disclosed that Mozambican top league Valunculos has refused to release Simplex Nthala for trials at UP.
