Joshua Orphan and Community Care on Sunday raised K1.1 million (about $27 500) during “a walk-for-children in Malawi”, which the organisation had at Michiru Mountain Nature Sanctuary in Blantyre.

“The money will be used to construct an assembly hall at Joshua Secondary School in Pensulo Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kuntaja. The school, which was built to assist vulnerable and needy students is an examination centre, but has no hall, so, there is a need for enough space,” said Sylvia Avgherinos.

Speaking in an interview, Winnie Kapalamula, who started the intervention, said the money realised will help in touching many lives of people since the organisation reaches out to orphans, the vulnerable and the sick.

Apart from raising funds through walking to four different trails at the sanctuary, some of the funds were obtained by selling different merchandise; donations from several individuals and companies such as S and A Cold Storage, City Motors and a raffle draw conducted at the picnic site where various items such as Universal Industries hampers, a shopping voucher from Consumer Electronics, car jacks, and wall clocks were won.
