Business magnate Jean Josiah-Banda has given tracksuits to 50 sports journalists across the country. The donation, valued at K1.8 million was made at the weekend in Lilongwe.

The tracksuits, which were bought in Malaysia, bear the reporter’s full names at the back.

“I have helped several sports sectors before and it was like reporters were sidelined. Sports reporters are important as they disseminate sports news to the masses. They do commendable job in promoting sports,” said Banda.

Banda, who is Lilongwe and Districts  Football League (LDFL) chairperson, said the list of beneficiaries was submitted few months ago.

“It might be that I have missed some reporters; this was because I requested the list of names, so I bought based on that list which had reporters from all the three regions. But I will see what I can do,” said Banda.

Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) Sports reporter Mike Bango, who is captain for Media Socials, hailed Banda for the donation.

“We are grateful to Banda for the gesture as the suits are of high quality. This will help people know the reporters in personal during the games. They just know some reporters by names, but they cannot identify them,” said Bango.

Recently, Banda also donated tracksuits to parliamentarians, referees and league teams.
