Joyce Hilda Mtila-Banda
President of the Republic of Malawi, I would realise that it is some of my People’s Party (PP) cohorts who need a lecture on their conduct other than Traditional Authority (T/A) Bvumbwe of Thyolo.
I would appreciate, if I were you mum, that whether the T/A was drunk or not, he was right to condemn my party members’ distribution of T-shirts during the funeral ceremony of High Court judge Joseph Manyungwa.
If only I were JB, I would admit that it was a shame for my overzealous party members to act in the manner they did.
How I wish I were ‘Mimi’, because I would take the initiative to give a stern lecture that funerals are supposed to be solemn occasions to pay respect to the departed and, of course, console the bereaved and not a platform for political campaigns.
I would further appreciate that it must have been my ‘boys’ who were high on sachets and not the chief, because no-one in their right senses can distribute party T-shirts at a funeral.
I would also appreciate that T/A Bvumbwe did nothing wrong by calling a spade by its name, and I would, therefore, take his advice as food for thought for me and my party followers on future conduct.
That is if I were my good mom that is JB. Unfortunately, I am not the good ‘ole lady and I am only a scribe that is Garry!
