Justin Dzonzi appointed MHRC commissioner

Malawi President Joyce Banda has appointed Justin Dzonzi as one of the commissioners of the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) effective January 27, replacing Rodgers Newa who resigned.

Reads a statement signed by MHRC acting publicist Patrick Stephano: “Pursuant to Section 131 of the Republic of Malawi Constitution and Section 4 of the Human Rights Commission Act [Chapter 3:08 of the Laws of Malawi], President Banda appointed Justin Dzonzi to serve in the Malawi Human Rights Commission.

He will serve for the rest of the term of the fifth cohort of the current commissioners which expires on July 4, 2015.”

Dzonzi who has been promoting human rights for years, explained in an interview that “this is an opportunity to further contribute towards the promotion of human rights in Malawi which I have expertise on”.
