The competition, which will be conducted with K11million ($20, 000) sponsorship from Malawi National Council of Sports, aims at revamping athletics events that dropped into an abyss of fantasy for almost the last two decades in schools, according to Massa general secretary Blackson Malamula.

He said the athletics championships will comprise cross country, track and field events that will start at zonal level, where best performers will proceed to district level. Then, all district champions will compete to identify division representatives for the national finals.

Malamula said the best achievers at national level will be invited for camp in April 2016 and this will be happening for three years.

“The competition will provide challenging events that can offer competitive environment and build confidence in athletes,” said Malamula.

The school level contest will run between October 17 and 24, zonal competition on October 31, district finals on November 7 and division finals on 14 and 15 November.

National finals will be conducted at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) between December 11 and 14. n
