Chilumba Barracks will receive K1 million (about $1 540)  for being 2015 Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Simama Premier League champions.

NRFA said they are liaising with the sponsor, Bishop Abraham Simama, to have the award ceremony before the end of this month.Chilumba-Barracks

NRFA treasurer Chauka Mwasinga said they have decided to conduct the ceremony earlier so as to provide Chilumba with funds as they are preparing for 2016 TNM Super League.

“We know that as they are preparing for Super League games, the prize money can minimise their financial problems. Meanwhile, we are just waiting for the sponsor to approve our calendar,” he said.

According to Chauka, the runners-up Karonga United will get K500 000 (about $770) while Kabwafu FC, who scooped the third position, will receive K290 000 (about $446).

There are also other cash prizes for most disciplined team and the media.

Chilumba Barracks assistant team manager Phillip Jere said the prize money would go a long way in assisting them to foot some of their Super League games preparations expenses.

“We are looking forward to the awards ceremony. The important thing is that getting our prize this early will assist us in preparing for the Super League,” he said.

Eighteen teams participated in the 2015 K4 million (about $6 162) NRFA Simama Premier League. n
