“We thought it proper to limit the FAM Cup to under-17 players to develop women football at all levels,” she said.

Chalira said all along the senior players have been incorporated in the Under-17 competition, a situation she said that needed to be checked.

“Our focus is to have strong junior national team. With a real under-17 tournament, it will be easy to achieve that. Coaches will ably monitor the growth of players as they move to national team,” she said.

The Under-17 FAM Cup is scheduled to kick off in September.

Northern Region Women Football Committee general secretary Salakunja Chimanga commended FAM for supporting women football.
