Chilumpha was speaking at Nkhotakota LEA School where he presented a K4.5 million (about $15 000) cheque to the institution’s management committee.

The money, from the Local Development Fund (LDF), will be used to build a resource room for pupils with learning difficulties.

“If we concentrate on politics, we will waste time because politics is dynamic and unpredictable.

“I urge traditional leaders, politicians and government officials to put aside personal interests to develop the country,” said Chilumpha.

The minister urged the committee to use the money for the intended purpose.

“During the 2012/13 parliamentary budget meeting, the House enacted the Disability Act which seeks to deal with discrimination and provide equal opportunity to people with disabilities.

“This legislation is only meaningful if people with disabilities are given an opportunity to learn; hence, the resource room,” said Chilumpha.

The school’s head teacher Bright Kambewa and Chief Malengachanzi expressed excitement that pupils with learning difficulties now have a learning facility.—Mana
