The 2015 season of Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) is here, the countdown to the finals is ticking and all is set to take centre stage this Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Activities to spice up the finals include an exclusive match between the Airtel Rising Stars team and the Malawi national team.

Airtel Malawi’s brands and communications manager, Isabel Kachinjika, said this season of ARS has been impressive and all is set for the finals.

“About 850 schools participated and the tournament went through three phases to reach to the final stage such as district, divisional and national finals. Six teams, of girls and boys each, qualified from the divisional finals and they will play on August 21 and 22 to get to the finals,” explained Kachinjika.

K1 million prize money is awaiting champions in the boys and girls categories.

Kachinjika also disclosed that individual outstanding players will be decorated with cash prizes as well.

Player-of-the-tournament and top goal scorers in the boys and girls category will each get K50 000.

Airtel Rising Stars is the most competitive and lucrative tournament that seeks to unearth raw football talent in Under-17 boys and girls category.

In the previous editions of the tournament, national winners in both boys and girls categories took part in the Pan African ARS tournament outside the country, and outstanding players were privileged to undergo football clinics courtesy of Manchester United and Arsenal.
