One million Rands, (about K42 million) is up for grabs for South Africa’s reality show Big Brother Mzanzi.

From February 2, 12 South Africans participate in a Big Brother show specifically for the Rainbow Nation.

With the countdown to Big Brother Mzansi gathering momentum, both Mzansi Magic and series producers Endemol South Africa are sharing their excitement about the new season.

“It is official. There’s a mouth-watering grand prize of R1 million on offer, the game is most definitely on,” reads a statement from Multichoice Africa.

As with previous editions of the popular reality show, each week housemates will nominate each other for eviction.

The housemates who get the most nominations will have to survive a viewer vote. If they do not, they are evicted out of the game instantly. Only the last person remaining at the end will take home the mega jackpot.

Along the way Big Brother, that infamous and legendary character at the centre of it all, will no doubt be introducing his own twists and turns into the game.

M-Net director for local general entertainment SA, Yolisa Phahle, is confident that Big Brother Mzansi will be the talk about show.

“Big Brother is the ultimate reality show. It’s unscripted, unrehearsed and literally anything can happen. You’ll see everything as it happens, from the friendships and feuds to the controversy and final contender. This is real TV in real time, 24/7,” Phahle said.

Commenting for Endemol SA, CEO Sivan Pillay adds: “We are thrilled that this time-tested format, one of the earliest in the Endemol stable, is back on South African screens.

“It remains one of the most exciting social experiments around and one that continues to fascinate viewers the world over with its unique ability to showcase a society and its diversity”.

Big Brother Mzansi will be hosted by hot TV personality Lungile Radu who’s well known to viewers of Channel O, Vuzu, and Mzansi Magic for programs such as Kasi 101, O-Boma and Forever Young.
