District football finals for the K8 million ($15.3 million) Southern Region Countrywide Cup will be played in the first weekend of September.
Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League chairperson Raphael Humba confirmed in an interview on Monday, saying the competition reached final stages at district level in May.
He added that the final dates of the competition coincided with those of the ongoing Carlsberg Cup, hence the delay.
“I can confirm that we are resuming the competition in September and teams should prepare for the district finals. Thereafter, we are going to conduct a draw for the district champions and the rest of the Premier and Division One teams for the region,” he said.
Humba also delved on the logistical challenges they came across in running the competition while awaiting administrative allocation from the sponsors.
“We have been assured by the sponsors that everything is now in place for the competition to resume. We surely are still in line with the football calendar and there is no cause for worr.”
