Kamuzu Academy (KA) has organised an under-17 football tournament this Saturday which will involve three teams.

According to KA physical education (PE) teacher Mike Banda, the two other schools that will take part in the day-long tournament are Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Division One champions Surestream Academy and Play Football Malawi.

He said KA will also host Surestream’s under-14 side, which won this year’s Kachere Bakery Under-14 League. Surestream won the league with a yawning 24 points gap. Play Soccer finished second whereas Khuzy Star were third.

“We have organised the tournament to expose our team to stiff competition and get a real test of our pedigree because, generally, we always find it easy playing against teams from surrounding areas. We would want to learn from them,” said Banda.

He further said the U-17 tournament will be played on round robin whereby the team with most points will emerge champions.

Surestream technical manager Patricio Kulemeka said the tournament will also help his team appreciate the importance of academic interest.

“Apart from helping us tune up for the forthcoming season, we are taking it as an opportunity for the boys to value the importance of education since KA is an elite learning institution which should be every school pupil’s aspiration and this is in line with our goals to advance football and academic prospects,” said Kulemeka.
