Kabula finally win, Bvumbwe Research stutter

Kabula United, formerly Escom United, finally had a feel of the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division win after beating White Eagles 1-0 on Saturday courtesy of Pempho Khola’s strike.

It was the first win in three games for veteran coach Alex Masanjala-trained Kabula who started off badly in the second-tier league with two straight defeats amid reports of unpaid dues. In their fourth game, Kabula drew 1-1 with Prison United.

Elsewhere, there was a reversal of fortunes for yet another relegated Super League side Bvumbwe Research FC.

After an opening 7-0 win over White Bullets last week, the Bob Mpinganjira side got a reality check, losing 2-1 to Cobbe Barracks on Saturday then 1-0 to White Eagles on Sunday.

Up the table, leaders Chikhwawa United steered clear of the rest of the chasing pack when they punished White Bullets 3-0 on Saturday and followed it up with a 3-2 defeat of Nyasa United.

Dave Chadewa, Stocker Munthali and Trecio Benedicto scored for Chikhwawa on Saturday. Against Nyasa, Benedicto was on target the following day alongside Ian Banda and Lanken Mwale. Zeka Phiri and Steve Dairi scored for Nyasa.

Chikhwawa have 16 points from six games to emerge as Super League promotion candidates.
