Kabwafu FC held leaders Chilumba Barracks to a goalless draw on Sunday at Kabwafu ground to move to second position of the K4 million ($6,807.29) Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Simama League.

They have overtaken Rumphi Medicals who are now on position four of the log table.

A goal-less draw against Chilumba plus a 2-0 win over Mhuju on Saturday means Kabwafu now have 63 points from 28 games.

Chilumba still lead the pack with 73 points from 28 games.

Karonga United is on position three with 61 points from 26 games while OP FC is on fifth position with 53 points from 26 games.

Kabwafu team manager Helmans Kaira said the championship battle is far from over.

“We are happy that we have sneaked to the second position of the league. This simply means that the battle for championship is still on and Kabwafu is part of the race,” he said.

The draw with Kabwafu is the fourth for Chilumba this year.

The soldiers from Karonga District have won 23 games and lost once to Karonga United.

Despite the draw to Kabwafu on Sunday, Chilumba team manager Phillip Jere said their vision to scoop this year’s championship will be attainable.

“Of course, we drew to Kabwafu, but that is not bad result considering that we were playing away. We still feel that the title is in our hands and obviously we will join Super League,” said Jere. n
