Kachepatsonga retains Airtel Golf honours

 

Victor Kachepatsonga on Sunday defended the Airtel Golf Championship after beating a field of 152 at the Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).

The three-day tournament was competed for by  golfers from all the  clubs in the country.

Kachepatsonga registered 222 gross to win the Championship Division ahead of Sean Raman with 232 gross while Paul Chidale was third with 234 gross.

As the overall champion,  Kachepatsonga got an Iphone 6plus, a golf bag  and a trophy.

In A Division, retired Malawi Defence Force (MDF) deputy commander John Msonthi Jnr carried the day with 166 gross, Charles Mvula came second with 169 gross whereas Thakor Sanjay was third with 171 gross.

Msonthi also received an Iphone 6plus, a tailor made golf bag and a glass trophy.

In B Division Shepard Tembo was the champion with 184 gross, David Kalenzi was  runner-up with 189 gross and Mike Kalulu was third with 191 gross.

Tembo also got Iphone 6plus, a tailor made golf bag and a trophy.

In the ladies section,  Maria Lee Cho carried the day with 43 points ahead of Suzanne Makin who scored 40 points.

Airtel Malawi director of enterprise business Rachel Mijiga described the golf tournament as a success.

“We are happy with the support we got from the golfers. It has been a success. We organised the tournament so we could interact with our customers through the game they like. Most of the golfers are busy people and for us to update them on our services it is through such tournaments,” she said

In his victory speech, Kachepatsonga expressed delight at defending the championship, saying:  “I have been telling my fellow golfers that I will retain the championship and I am glad to have done that. I trained hard for this competition and I was never in doubt of winning. I thank Airtel for the wonderful prizes and the general organisation of the tournament.” n
