Kachepatsonga wins Airtel Golf Championship

Victor Kachepatsonga on Sunday emerged winner of the Airtel Golf championship, beating a field of 152 golfers at Lilongwe Golf Club.

The tournament, which was played for three days starting from Friday last week, was competed by members from all golf clubs in the country.

Kachepatsonga, who is also national team captain, had 227 strokes ahead of his runner-up Brian Coombes who had 228 strokes after counting out Adam Sailesi.

For his feat, Kachepatsonga got an iPhone6, golf bag, travel bag and a trophy.

“It was a very tough tournament competed by the country’s top golfers and I am excited to emerge the champion,” said Kachepatsonga.

In A Division, Gift Chisale carried the day with 167 strokes after counting out Adak Sailesi. Chilungamo Chimwaza was third with 168 strokes.

Chisale got a Samsung note, a travel bag and a trophy.

In A Division Collins Mbade emerged the winner with 177 strokes, Stamford Mpoola was second with 187 strokes after counting out Mukeshi Vash.

Mbande got a driver, Samsung Note6, golf bag and a trophy.

In the ladies’ category, Maria Cho carried the day with 37 points whereas Evelyn Bailey was her runner-up.

Airtel Malawi acting managing director Charles Kamoto expressed satisfaction with the golfers’ turnout.

“We are happy with the support we got from the golfers. It has been a success. We organise golf tournaments to interact with our customers. Most of the golfers are our customers and we use the game they like as a platform to update them on our services,” said Kamoto. n
