Kadwa gets 2-year jail sentence

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has triumphed in the conviction of former Blantyre chief resident magistrate David Kadwa who was on Tuesday sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour for graft.

Kadwa’s lawyer, Justin Dzonzi, said in an interview he would appeal against the judgement on the basis that there was no evidence against his client’s verdict.

Kadwa was convicted last Thursday on three counts of soliciting K500 000 ($2 994) as an inducement to take over a case from a fellow magistrate; accepting K150 000 ($898) as reward for influencing a court decision and directing an accounts assistant to issue a K1 million ($5 988) cheque as bail refund before a case was concluded.
