Kaingwe beat defending champion Chrispine Mphande.

The 18-hole tournament, which teed off on the dry nine-hole Mzuzu golf course attracted 31 players from Mzuzu City. Other golfers came from as far as Kasasa in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

Mika Phiri and Wilson Kaingwe trailed Bregger Kaingwe in second and third places respectively in the men’s category. Phiri hit nearest to the pin whereas Wilson Kaingwe hit the longest drive.

In the ladies category, Ruth Mvula was the champion. She was followed by Linda Ndalama and women’s captain Joyce Trindad in second and third positions, respectively.

Courtesy of National Bank, the top three in both categories received various prizes in form of golf items and trophies.

NBM chief executive officer George Partridge, who presided over the tournament, presented a cheque of K150 000 (about $600) towards improvement of the course.

Partridge said his bank supports such tournaments to interact with its customers.

“We are doing several improvements to all our infrastructure in the Northern Region so that our customers can be served better,” said Patridge.

He said NBM was reorganising its banking service to focus on e-banking to save the customers the trouble of physically going to the bank to do basic transactions.
