Kakhobwe replaces Soko

Nyasa Big Bullets goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe’s heroics in Presidential Cup play-offs against Blue Eagles has earned him a late call-up to the Flames squad.

The goalminder impressed in the Presidential Cup play-offs when he saved three penalties for Bullets to march to the quarter-finals. .

He replaces Blue Eagles goalkeeper John Soko. Ironically, just a day after being dropped from the squad, Soko conceded four goals as Kamuzu Barracks (KB) routed the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side at Civo Stadium.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said they got instruction from the technical committee on the changes.

“The coach decided to make the changes following Kakhobwe’s performance in recent matches,” Nyirenda said.

Mtawali confirmed the development on Monday.

Meanwhile, the coach flew to Zimbabwe yesterday to watch the Warriors international friendly against Uganda this evening.

He is expected back on Wednesday, two days before the Flames leave for Zimbabwe on Friday for the Afcon qualifier.

The Warriors are leading Group L with eight points, three ahead of second-placed Swaziland.

Guinea are third while Malawi’s Flames are at the bottom with two points. n
