Kakhongwe seeks relief in Mr. Zomba contest

Mr. Zomba runner-up Thoko Kakhongwe has vowed to hit the jackpot at this year’s contest at Gymkhana Club this Sunday.

Kakhongwe fifth, three places ahead of Mr. Zomba defending champion Emmanuel Binauli during the Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding Championships last weekend and that seems to give him the confidence of taking the Mr. Zomba crown.

“I managed to beat the defending champion on the national stage; I do not see myself anywhere below the winner this weekend. I have matured both in my physical appearance and my posing techniques,” he said.

According to Mr. Zomba contest organiser Bright Limani, Kakhongwe, Binauli and Joseph Nyirongo, who are among the 12 eligible contestants, are favourites in this year’s event.

He said the contest will be spiced up by a seven-round boxing bout between Bright Mdoka and McNott Phiri. Wrestling and power lifting are also expected to curtain-raise the bodybuilding event.

The annual event has been co-sponsored by WT Food Zone, Teng-Da Investments and Mulima Hardware.
