Touched by untimely deaths of mothers and children due to birth complications, Blantyre-based cyclists Stuart Kambewa will on September 8 cycle from Chileka Round About in Blantyre to City Shopping Mall in Lilongwe to raise K20 million towards Nation Publications Limited Mother’s Fun Run initiative.

Hoping to raise K20 million for mothers: Kambewa

He said: “I have become a father this year and I know what women go through to give birth. I believe no mother or child should die because of birth complications. I seek to raise K20 million towards this cause. This is not the first time I have cycled for a good cause. In 2016 I did cycled to raise money for construction of boreholes. I cycled from Nsanje to Chitipa and back. Last year, in a stretch of 45 kilometers to Ku Chawe Inn and raised money for fees for two secondary school girls.”

The 302 kilometers (km) stretch has been divided into five categories for corporate sponsors, according to Kambewa.

The first stretch is from Chileka Roundabout to Zalewa (45km), Zalewa to Chingeni (63km), Chingeni to Ntcheu (36km), Ntcheu to Dedza (70km) and Dedza to Lilongwe (88km).

“Let’s turn the kilometers and time covered along these stretches into funds. Please companies choose a stretch or get all the five to sponsor. This is all for the good of our mothers, our women. It is our collective responsibility to better their lives during delivery,” he said.

Funds can be channelled through Airtel Money (0993090000 NPL) or (TNM 0883323232 NPL ).

NPL business manager Albert Banda applauded Kambewa for supporting the cause.

Kambewa’s intervention comes after 15 other cyclists biked from Namitete to Mchinji and back also as part of using sports to raise funds towards NPL Mother’s Fun Run.
