She was followed closely by Connie Muguvu-Karuku and Rosa Mbilizi on third.

Kamphulusa could not hide her excitement after the victory which she described as having come from her determination to achieve something at the end of the tournament.

“I think it was my day. There was no pressure. I knew I would win the tournament right after my first shot,” she said.

Gift Chidya Gondwe won the men’s category with Michael Mangwana as runner-up while Hudson Kantwanje scooped the third position.

Gondwe said it was an honour to win the TNM golf tournament.

“It is great to win. And it is even great to win a great tournament. I think I am now playing solid golf,” he said.

“I also have to thank BSC ladies section for including the men’s category in their tournament. It made the tournament exciting.”

TNM chief commercial officer Daniel Makata said they were impressed with the tournament.

He said: “We are thankful to the BSC ladies section for choosing TNM to sponsor this tournament. As a sponsor, we are encouraged by the participation and format that included men. It added flavour. As a Malawian company, we believe in interacting with Malawians.”

The K3 million tournament started early this year.

BSC ladies golf captain Muguvu-Karuku applauded TNM for the sponsorship, which she said has helped improve the standards of ladies golf at the club.

The tournament also had a girls section, which was won by Zitta Rodrick while Priscilla Fiwa was runner-up. Palesa Mitupa finished third. n
