Kamuzu Barracks dealt big blow

TNM Super League Central Region candidates Kamuzu Barracks (KB) have been dealt a blow ahead of their return into the top-flight Super League as seven of their players will travel to Cote d’ Ivoire on a peacekeeping mission.

KB were recently crowned champions of the Chipiku-sponsored Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL) Premier Division and they are set to play in the flagship football league in the forthcoming season.

The seven key players include their marksman Robert Kayira, Ted Kalinda, Ndaona Tseka, Dennis Kambewa, McDonald Kumwembe, Tony Kalele and Victor Saidi as well as their assistant coach Joseph Chilapondwa.

While confirming the development to the media, the club’s vice-chairperson Lameck Kalenga said they have already started a serious rebuilding drive.

“It is true that about seven of our players will be going out of the country on duty.

“These are players who played a key role in our campaign to earn promotion into the Super League. But there is no cause for worry because we are in the process of recruiting players.

“And I am appealing to players that want to join us to come for assessment starting this Tuesday,” Kalenga said.

KB coach Kenwood Nkhoma also said assessment for new players has already began.

“Obviously, we’ll be affected by the departure of the seven players plus my assistant, but we are doing everything possible to find their replacements.

“Let me also take this opportunity to appeal to players that feel they are good enough to come for trials at Kamuzu Barracks,” Nkhoma said.
