Former Be Forward Wanderers midfield maestro Joseph Kamwendo has joined the club’s fundraising initiative to save the Nomads from extinction.

“I had a meeting with the club’s main supporters committee leadership,  including chairperson Melvin Nkunika to inform them about my decision and they were happy.

“This team means a lot to me. It gave me the platform to scale lofty heights and I feel obliged to contribute towards the cause.

“It’s painful to see a big club like Wanderers going through all this,” he said.

The former Orlando Pirates, TP Mazembe, FC Nordsjaelland, Clube Maculmana and Caps United star said he has imposed himself as an ambassador in the initiative.

“I will travel across the country at no cost to mobilise supporters and well-wishers to contribute towards K100  million monthly which can make a big difference. I will do it for free for the love of the team.

“I am even planning to book an appointment with the Vice-President Saulos Chilima to see if there is a way he can help. I will also reach out to other high-profile members of the society who are associated with Wanderers,” he said.

Kamwendo said as a former player, he understands what the players are going through.

Nkunika confirmed having been approached by Kamwendo.

“He has demonstrated the love he has for the team and as a legend, his move will play a big role in boosting up the campaign. This is the kind of spirit we need to succeed in our drive,” he said.

The Lali Lubani outfit has been struggling following the withdrawal of sponsorship by Japanese used vehicles dealers Be Forward Limited.
