Atusaye nyondo closeup apr8 | The Nation OnlineJoseph Kamwendo was in the thick of things as his Liga Maculmana stunned Lobi Stars 4-1 to progress to the Confederations Cup second round on Friday.

Kamwendo played a full game as Maculmana overturned a first leg 3-1 deficit in Maputo through goals from Sonito, Josemar (two goals) and Helder Pelembe to progress 8-4 on aggregate, according to the Mozambican side’s injured Malawian striker Zicco Mkanda.

Lobi goalkeeper John Lawrence, who scored one of the goals in the first clash in Bauchi, was given marching orders for Ikenna Hillary to replace him, reported Nigeria press. Maculmana will next meet either Wydad Casablanca or AS Douanes Lome.

In the same CAF competition, Atusaye Nyondo did not play as his SuperSport United beat Petro Atletico of Angola 2-0 to advance on the same aggregate after a brace from veteran striker Sibusiso Zuma in Pretoria.

Still in South Africa, there was neither Robert Ng’ambi for Platinum Stars nor Harry Nyirenda for 4-0 losers Black Leopards on Saturday in a Premier Soccer League meeting.

Stars are second on 45 points on the table whereas Leopards are third from the bottom on 20 points. There was still no sign of Robin Ngalande for Bidvest Wits University as they drew 1-1 with Moroka Swallows on Saturday.
