Sports Writers Association of Malawi (Swam) president Peter Kanjere has once again been trusted to vote for the Fifa Ballon d’Or 2012 World player of the year and coach of the year.

Kanjere, who is a sports news analyst at Nation Publications Limited, is among a few selected specialised journalists in the world to vote for the football’s most decorated individual awards.

This is the third year in a row that Kanjere has been given the privilege to vote by the France Football magazine who organise the awards.

“It is a privilege for me, Malawi sports media and its umbrella body, the Sports Writers Association of Malawi (Swam) to be part of this process,” Kanjere said on Thursday.

He could not shed light on his preferences for the award prior to the official announcing of the winners as he is not allowed to do so in order to protect the interests and credibility of the Fifa Ballon d’Or.

According to a statement by Gérard Ejnes, editor-in-chief of France Football, addressed to the voters, the composition of the international jury consists of specialist journalists, national team coaches and national team captains, with the votes of the three groups each accounting for 33 percent of the final vote.

There are 23 players short-listed from which the voters should select three finalists. There is also a list of 10 coaches from which three should be picked.

On Thursday, November 29 2012, names of the three finalists for the awards will be announced at a press conference in São Paulo, Brazil whereas the winners will be unveiled at a ceremony at Zurich’s Kongresshaus on January 7 2013.
