Malawian veteran striker Esau Kanyenda registered a double on Wednesday night to guide Polokwane City to an emphatic 5-2 beating of Free State Stars whose assistant coach is compatriot Kinnah Phiri.

The South Africa Premiership match was played at Charles Mopeli Stadium. Kanyenda was joined on the score-sheet by Puleng Tlolane’s brace for City with another goal from Jabulani Maluleke.

Moeketsi Sekola struck twice for Stars who are coached by another ex-Flames mentor Tom Saintfiet. The result saw City rise to 12th on the 15-member table with 10 points, a point behind Stars.
