Going out to prove their worth in the Flames: Kanyenda

Recalled veteran midfielder Fischer Kondowe and striker Esau Kanyenda have said they will be out to prove that they are not yet past the prime should they be given a chance to feature against Mali’s Eagles on Saturday.

The two seasoned players said they are excited with their recall as it provides them another chance to prove that their legs are not long gone.

“I am excited and looking forward to fighting for a place in the national team because I know that my position is not guaranteed.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the coaches for giving me another chance because I believe I still have something to offer at national level,” said Kondowe.

He also said his recall was deserved owing to club performance other than public demand.

And speaking from his Polokwane base in South Africa, Kanyenda said he is prepared to give out something extra in the quest to help the Flames revive their qualification campaign.

“It is always an honour to represent one’s country, so yes, I was excited when my club officials informed me about my recall,” he said.

“It is a wonderful feeling to be back in the national team and should I be featured, my aim is to make a difference.”

Kanyenda last featured for the Flames in September last year against Kenya in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Apart from Fischer and Kanyenda, coach Young Chimodzi has also recalled strikers Peter Wadabwa and Zicco Mkanda.

Chimodzi shrugged off suggestions that the four have been recalled due to public pressure.
