Kanyenda flops at Amazulu

Battle-hardened forward Esau ‘Black Mamba’ Kanyenda has become the second key Flames forward to fail to impress at a South African club within two weeks due to lack of fitness.

After attending trials at ambitious Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Amazulu, Kanyenda could not be offered a deal because coach Roger Palmgren was not impressed with his fitness levels after training with the Kwazulu Natal-based outfit for two weeks..

Apparently the development comes barely a few days after another Flames striker Chiukepo Msowoya also failed to make the grade at the newly-promoted PSL side University of Pretoria.

In an interview Kanyenda said he was not bitter as he has an outright offer from Danish East Second Division side B 1893 where he was during his short stint.

“The reason why I accepted Amazulu’s call for assessment was because I wanted to be closer home.

“Unfortunately, things didn’t work out, but I am not bitter as our former national coach Kim Splidsboel assured me that the Danish club [that he coaches] will still offer me a fresh outright contract,” said Kanyenda.

“The former Jomo Cosmos player failed to convince the Amazulu technical team for a contract at the club. Word is that the player’s fitness levels are below standard, much to the dissatisfaction of Amazulu coach Roger Palmgren.

“Usuthu gave the player his final chance to impress in a friendly game played against Thanda Royal Zulu last weekend,” wrote South African online magazine soccerladuma.com.

Kanyenda was recently offered a short-term contract at B 1893 after ending his 10-year romance with Russian football where his last club was Dynamo Brynsky.
